how to Apply pasted wallpaper

Ensure your walls are smooth, clean, and dry. For specific guidance on preparing different types of walls, refer to our checklist. Make sure you have all the necessary tools before you start. You can find everything you need at a local paint or hardware store. Installing wallpaper is more enjoyable and easier with a second pair of hands. Invite a friend, family member, or colleague to lend a hand. Having someone to help can make a big difference in the success and enjoyment of your DIY project.

step one

wallpaper prep

Unroll the wallpaper roll and cut along the dotted lines to separate each individual strip of the design.

Identify each strip by the number printed  at the top. To ensure correct placement, arrange the strips in hanging order on a clean, flat surface, such as the floor.

NOTE: Store them in the room where they will be installed for at least 24 hours to allow the wallpaper to acclimate to the humidity. This step is crucial in minimizing the risk of shrinkage and visible seams.

NOTE: The length of each strip should match the height of your room (the size you entered when you ordered).

step two

mark you wall

Use a plumb line and pencil to mark the width of each strip. Check its straight using a spirit level as this will ensure your strip is applied straight on the wall.

NOTE: The first panel is important as it guides the rest.

Paste the wall evenly and make sure you cover all edges and paste the wall a few centimeters past your line so you dont have to glue near your last laid piece.

Be prepared to hang your strip so the glue isn’t dry.

NOTE: If you added a safety margin make sure you centre the strip vertically on the wall so you have an even margin at the top and at the bottom.

Example: If your wall height is 200cm and you ordered your wallpaper at 220cm you would need to allow 10cm at the top and bottom.

step three

Hang your paper

Start at the top making sure the right edge of your strip follows the line you marked out. Use a wallpaper brush to smooth down and to remove bubbles as you go, so as not to mark the print.

Use a damp sponge to wipe away any excess glue that may have gotten onto the surface of your wallpaper.

Repeat this process for the following pieces ensuring you line up the design to the previous piece.

To continue the installation, hang the next strip to the right of the previous one, carefully matching up the pattern.

Ensure a seamless look by first aligning the strips edge-to-edge and avoiding any overlap
Making sure there are no visible seams

step four

trimming + drying

After all the strips have been applied to the wall, trim any excess from the edges by using a sharp knife. Use a straight edge to keep the paper from tearing and to get a nice clean edge.

Allow the wallpaper and paste to dry at room temperature and with good ventilation for at least 24 hours.

If there’s a radiator on the actual wall, shut it off during the drying process to reduce the risk of uneven shrinking.
